Principal News

Dear Parents,

What a fantastic Semester 1 it has been at St Saviour's Primary School.

I am very thankful that I have the privilege of leading such a great school community and in particular, the amazing students and staff that I am able to interact with on a daily basis.

We are well on our way to achieving our goals in our annual Action Plan that includes providing a multi-tiered system of support that identifies clear expectations for all students who attend SSPS, the creation of a new Master Plan, bringing to life our school Mercy Values and implementing rigorous assessment tasks in Religious Education.  All of these priorities will continue into Semester 2.

In Week 2 next term, all parents will have the opportunity to complete the Shaping our Future Survey.  Every two years, families from all Toowoomba Catholic Schools share their views through this Perception Survey. It’s a valuable way for us to reflect on how each of our schools are living out Toowoomba Catholic Schools shared purpose: enabling full and flourishing lives.

This year’s survey will be sent via Sentral on Monday, 21 July.
Please keep an eye out for it – your feedback helps shape the future of all 32 Toowoomba Catholic schools.

We will also be asking Years 5 and 6 students from SSPS to complete a student version of the survey during Catholic Education Week at school.

Of course, if you have more specific feedback relating to anything at St Saviour's Primary School, you are always welcome to send me an email: sam.hannant@twb.catholic.edu.au

STAFFING NEWS: Mrs Kat Bird's last day working in prep at SSPS is today.  We wish Kat and her family all the best as they move to Kingaroy for the beginning of Term 3.  Taking Kat's place in Prep H will be Mrs Sonny Hillman.  Sonny comes to St Saviour's Primary after a long career working with children and also teaching them how to swim.  Sonny is very keen to learn and has already spent a morning in Prep H.  Welcome Sonny!

Have a great holiday and I look forward to seeing all children back at school on Tuesday July 15.

APA News

Dear Parents

It is that time of year when we stop and reflect upon all the achievements of the first semester.  Congratulations to the students who were awarded Mercy Value awards at assembly this week and for offering a lived example of what compassion, service and excellence looks like to our school community.

Equally inspiring to the school community was the number of students acknowledged for their academic excellence across the semester.  Close to a quarter of the student population received academic excellence certificates based on their Semester One report cards, and two students—Madeline Franklin in Year 6 and Nina Lucas in Year 5—were awarded academic medallions for their outstanding results.  As the name suggests the Phoenix awardees have demonstrated resilience and hard work which has transformed an aspect of their learning.  It is always an honour to acknowledge these students, as although they may not have received the highest results, they have always given their best, which is something to truly aspire to.

Not every student is recognised formally by official awards. However, I would like to take this opportunity to thank every single student in our community. Each individual brings their own special qualities to our community and help to shape it into the unique, precious family that it is.  Some things that I have seen this semester that embody the collective values and culture of our school include:

  • The year 1 student who stood beside his friend that was crying and took five deep breaths with him to help co-regulate, before encouraging him to run off together to play;
  • The year 6 students who diligently collected the tuckshop baskets for the Preps, Year 1s and 2s;
  • The Preppie students who proudly showed off their impressive writing skills to the leadership team;
  • The Year 3 girls who foun a teacher when their friend was hurt;
  • The year 5 boys who left the footy game on the oval and continued to show up as friends;
  • The students who courageously performed in front of the school community;
  • The perseverance and determination shown by the students learning an instrument;
  • The committed choir students sharing their passion and enthusiasm;
  • The grit and determination shown by the athletes who gave their all, whether they were coming first or last; and
  • The Year 2s that cheered on their classmates when they received a student of the week award at assembly.

I feel blessed to be a part of this community that strives in faith, learning and life, inspired by the Mercy Charism and walking in the footsteps of Jesus.

 Wishing all families a well-deserved  break from school life filled with rest, renewal and joy.

….experiencing FAITH in the Mercy Tradition

Dear families

Congratulations to a number of our students who completed the Sacramental Program by receiving their First Eucharist last weekend. Through dedication, prayer and the support of their families and parish community, these young people have taken meaningful steps in their faith journey, receiving the Holy sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Eucharist. In the Catholic church, the sacraments are sacred signs instituted by Christ to give grace. They mark important moments in our spiritual lives, drawing us closer to God and more deeply into the life of the Church. By participating in these sacraments, these children are growing in their relationship with Jesus and becoming more fully part of our Catholic community. We thank all the parents and Fr Michael who played a vital role in preparing and guiding our students. Please continue to keep our newly sacramented children in your prayers as they continue to grow in faith

“Let the little children come to me…..for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” – Mark 10:14

As part of the HPE curriculum, classroom teachers will be teaching students about respectful relationships which includes conversations about protective behaviours and puberty, self-worth, respectful flourishing relationships and safety and wisdom in the online space. Respectful Relationships Education (RRE) is focussed on students learning through the curriculum and living their learning in everyday life. The Australian Curriculum (2022) requires the integration of RRE in Health and Physical Education, and across other Learning Areas using the General Capabilities to make meaningful curriculum connections.

When teaching students about respectful relationships, the Real Talk program will be used. It is a personal approach that educates, equips and empowers students with the skills necessary to navigate these sensitive and difficult areas. Entitled Sprout (Prep – Yr 4) and Flourish (Year 5 -7), these programs will discuss the following topics in an age appropriate way: Personal identity, Relationships, Media and Technology, and Puberty.

Real Talk Education – School Community Access for Parent & Caregivers:

As part of our school’s subscription to Real Talk Education, the Real Talk team have given our school community FREE basic access to their Real Talk Parents site.

The site includes quick reference guides, conversation starters, printable resources, videos and curated links for parenting on the tough topics to do with relationships and eSafety.

The Real Talk for Parent Short Video Series currently provides short accessible videos on keeping your kids safe online, family tech agreements and phone access. The Primary and Secondary Aged Resources Portal provided links to a range of useful sites, guides and video links to further explore issues of relationships and online safety.

We invite you to explore the available content as we partner in forming respectful young people that understand their dignity and worth.

If you’ve any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher.

Middle Leader News

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we approach the end of the semester, we're pleased to share that student report cards have been published to the Parent Portal. These reports offer a snapshot of your child’s progress, achievements, and areas for growth across all learning areas.

We encourage you to take the time to review your child’s results together—celebrating successes and discussing goals for the term ahead. Remember, report cards are just one of many tools we use to support your child’s learning and development. They’re a prompt for rich conversations, reflection, and planning between students, parents, and teachers.

Teachers look forward to meeting with all parents during Week 1 of Term 3 to discuss student progress further.  If you have not yet booked an Parent Teacher Interview time, please do so via the Sentral App.

I would also like to take the time to acknowledge and congratulate some award winners from this term.  Students who achieved mostly A’s and B’s on their report cards received an Academic Achievement Certificate in front of their class on Thursday. The amount of students who were recognised with a certificate was outstanding and a testament to the hard work and commitment these students put in, along side their parents and teachers.

We also recognised some of our students who made significant progress in one or more learning areas throughout Semester One with our Progress Phoenix Award. These students are also to be congratulated for their commitment to learning.  We look forward to watching all students grow and progress in their learning in Semester 2.

St Saviour’s Primary School Athletics Carnival 2025

The St Saviour’s Primary Athletics Carnival was a fantastic event, with students enthusiastically participating in a day filled with vibrant school spirit and friendly competition.
