Year 5 Camp
Year 5 Camp
At 8:30am on Monday morning, 58 excited students and 5 enthusiastic teachers left St Saviour’s Primary School for an adventure-packed three day camp at Camp Cooby Dam.
Upon our arrival, which included a safety brief and information about the facilities, the children took part in a goal setting session and ice-breaker warm-up game. After morning tea, (the first of many healthy and tasty meals), we broke into three activity groups for ‘Tarp Turn Over’, ‘Acid River’, ‘Keypunch’ and ‘Pipeline’.
Over the next couple of days, our Year 5 students challenged themselves and each other while participating in rock climbing, crate stacking, bridge building, star gazing, ‘Sardines’, orienteering, damper making and a ‘Cooby Quest’.
Another definite highlight was the activity before our showers at night – the huge water slide and the zipline!!
Our last night on Leadership camp was the perfect opportunity to reflect on our individual strengths and the qualities that each student has inside of them to bring to Year 6 2021 for St Saviour’s. The teachers were extremely proud of the way that the children are taking this role seriously and look forward to being role models for other students within the school.
The Year 5 Leadership camp certainly illustrated how students can work together to solve problems, bring out the best in themselves and each other and show commitment and perseverance to overcome difficulties and hurdles.
Thanks so much to all the teachers for the extra work it takes to organise a camp and for ensuring that this was a memorable and rewarding experience for our Year 5 students…..our leaders for next year!!!
We hope you enjoyed looking at the photos on our school Facebook page and we look forward to sharing heaps more via Schoolzine tomorrow.
Even though our Year 5 students did not stop the whole time they were away, they still managed to write some amazing odes to camp today, highlighting our learning of poetic devices throughout the term.
