APRE NEWS

Dear Parents and Carers,
At Assembly this week, as a school community we reflected on National Reconciliation Week...
As we gather today, we are reminded that God’s dream for all the world is one of justice and equality, of compassion and understanding, of forgiveness and mercy, to be shared by all peoples on earth. We pray that we walk together in a spirit of reconciliation and unity.
#NRW2021 ARTWORK: ACTION

The 2021 National Reconciliation Week theme graphics are drawn from the artwork  Action by Jessica Johnson.

The artwork reflects our connection and mutual obligation to one another, community and Country. Through commonality and difference, we have the ability to come together and achieve real change.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have been listening to the heartbeat of the land and sea for generations. With their rainbow shaped souls the spirits ask for us to join and make reconciliation more than a word, take action. We need to love one another and every aspect of the existing environment and community – we all have a role to play.

We are the change.

This artwork was commissioned by Reconciliation Australia in association with 33 Creative who advised on and managed the theme creation and development.

ELEMENTS OF THE ARTWORK INCLUDE
  • Spirit souls = thinking/awareness
  • The undulating landscape is shown through the contours at the base of the artwork.
  • Moons/planet = Represent cycle and time.
  • Stars = Navigation and knowing the way.
  • Boomerang = Coming full circle. 20 boomerangs represent the 20 years of Reconciliation Australia.
  • Reflection = Reflecting on our actions.
  • Central river = The crying river represents the degradation and needed renewal. The land is suffering from inaction.

Year 3H - Visual Art

Australian Aboriginal art and culture is the oldest continuous tradition on the planet. In the last century it has also emerged as one of the world’s most important contemporary art movements. Whether on bark, canvas or in new media, Aboriginal artists have used art to express the power and beauty of their culture, across cultures: to show their enduring connection to, and responsibility for, ancestral lands and the continuity of their identities and beliefs.

WARM WINTER WOOLIES APPEAL:
Every year St Vincent De Paul hold a Winter Appeal. This appeal raises money and awareness that helps the poor and homeless during the cold Winter Months.
Between now and the end of term, the Year 5s will be holding a Warm Winter Woolies Drive where we will be asking our school community for donations of any unwanted warm Winter clothes. We are looking for donations of woollen beanies, gloves and scarves, new pairs of warm socks, old coats, jackets and jumpers.
Please make sure the items of clothing are in good clean condition so that they could be used by someone who needs them. Donation boxes will be located outside of 5C. It would be wonderful if we could bring a little warmth and comfort to people who need it.   Mrs Cooper & Ms Lancuba (Year 5 Teachers)

REQUEST FROM ROSIES: As you may have seen on FB, Fay and Jim Stein from ROSIES Outreach visited our Year 6 classes last week to collect the "Oodles of Noodles" that had been donated/ collected. When asked if there was anything else that they were needing, they mentioned that Paper towels were in high demand, so if you  able to throw an extra packet of papertowel into your grocery trolley, anytime over the next few weeks. ROSIES would really appreciate it. Send it into the office and I can gather them here. Thank you!
Sacramental Program:
After being confirmed by Bishop Robert, two weeks ago, nearly 40 boys and girls will be making their First Communion this weekend. For those available, there will be a quick practice after school tomorrow, with parents to collect students from 3:45 at the cathedral.
We congratulate these families and ask you to continue to keep them in your prayers.
Enjoy the rest of your week,
Judy
