November School Board and P & F meetings
The final P & F and School Board meetings were held recently. I would like to thank all those who have given time and energy over the course of 2020. I know these dedicated parents have been working in the background to help support the school and provide great opportunities for the students here at SSPS. Our P & F have organised our annual School Colour Run for Friday 27th November for all children to have an end of year fun activity. There are some very excited children and staff who can't wait for the chance to run through colour!!
If your child wants to take part in the Colour Run next Friday they must bring:
- Old clothes
- Old joggers/ closed in shoes
- A towel
Students will NOT be allowed to participate in the Colour Run in their school uniform.
Let's hope for a sunny day.
Please see the link below to the November Principal School Report.
Have a relaxing weekend and thanks for reading.

Dear Parents and Carers,
As predicted, the end of term is looming but we have many "mountains to climb" yet before we get there. You will see some photos below, which will give some indication of what has been happening within the Religious Life of St Saviour's Primary School over the last week or so.
CONFIRMATION
YEAR 6 MASS
MINI VINNIES' APPEAL
Year 5 Mini Vinnies' Christmas Appeal has started. You are invited to send donations of non-perishable Christmas food items into school by Week 8. The Christmas Hampers will be presented to St Vincent de Paul Society at our final assembly in Week 9. Your generosity towards helping those in need is very much appreciated.
CATHOLIC MISSION VISIT:
On Wednesday this week, Emily Connors from Catholic Mission Australia visited SSPS for the afternoon and spoke with the Yr 4s, 5s and 6s. Emily spoke about her life in Ireland, before coming to Australia for a holiday (two years ago) and then taking up the position as Director of Mission Australia.
Emily spoke warmly about her visit to Cambodia, telling the students about how any small amount of money donated had a "ripple effect", bringing employment, education, independence and self-esteem to the local community. She also shared a story from Cambodia about how a Giraffe gives us a good model for Leadership as they have "clear vision" (being taller than all around), a "huge heart" and are "always calm".
She was thrilled to receive a cheque for $1000 from us, which was the total we raised through October and Socktober. Thank you all for your generosity.
SACRAMENTAL PROGRAM for 2021
I visited the Year 3 classrooms today to hand out a letter and an Enrolment Form to those students who are Baptised and may be interested in participating in the Sacramental Program (Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation) next year. Parents are asked to keep an eye out for these forms and to contact me via the school office if you do not receive any paperwork or you are after further information.
Enjoy the rest of your week,
Judy
A-E Definitions
Semester Two Report Cards will be sent home on Tuesday 1 December.
When you receive your child's report card you will notice that nothing has changed and we are still using A-E grades for each area of learning. These A-E results come with definitions which you will also see on the report card.
An example of the 'C' definition is below:
Evidence of the student's work typically demonstrates that the student has the targeted knowledge and
- expected conceptual understanding
- expected application of skills
- they are able to transfer the above to familiar situations
As you can see above, a 'C' result in any learning area (Maths, English, Science etc) is the expected result. Some other key terms that are included in this definition are below:
Evidence: a range of information that teachers collect including data, work samples, digital media, teacher notes, formal assessment tasks.
Typically: allows for those students who may not have displayed this during a particular assessment task, but it is evident in their work with the frequency required within this grade. No longer are grades given based on one test or one assignment.
Conceptual Understanding: connected web of knowledge. Different concepts in maths may include angles, perimiter, area etc.
Skills: These are often the things that students need to be able to do. Some examples include creating texts, asking questions, re-reading and editing and there are many more.
Transfer: transfer is the ability of a student to take their current knowledge, skills and understandings and apply this into a new scenario and/or different context.
Of course, several students will achieve above or below a 'C' grade and the definitions do alter to take this into consideration. The three key terms of conceptual understanding, skills and the ability to transfer knowledge are in all definitions and students show these at different levels and hence the A-E grade.
If you would like any further clarification on the A-E definitions, please don't hesitate to send me an email.
Teaching and Learning Meetings
During Week 7, the classroom teachers and Leadership Team have been participating in Teaching and Learning Meetings. These meetings have given all stakeholders an opportunity to discuss student learning as cohorts, small groups and individuals. This then allows classroom teachers to set goals for student learning.
These goals will be passed on to the child's teacher the following year so that learning can progress as soon as the 2021 school year begins.
STEM Showcase
The 2020 STEM Showcase was a very big success with an enjoyable morning had by all participants.
The students who participated did an excellent job teaching the Year 6 Our Lady of Lourdes students about the Design Thinking Process and the various STEM based tools that we use here at St Saviour's.
A very big thanks to the teachers in Year 3-6 who did an excellent job working with the students on setting up the showcase!
Book Fair is here!
We appreciate your support of the fair as we earn commission based on the final sale amount and this is taken as new titles for the student collection. Everyone benefits!
Students will view the fair and create a wish list today and Friday. Please discuss any purchases and make payment online using the form on the wish list or the flyer. Students must bring the receipt number to library staff for the order to be filled. Paid orders can be collected by students at the end of the school day next Monday and Tuesday.
