Health and Physical Education

Health and Physical Education (F–6) aims to develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to enable students to:

  • access, evaluate and synthesise information to take positive action to protect, enhance and advocate for their own and others’ health, wellbeing, safety and physical activity participation across their lifespan
  • develop and use personal, behavioural, social and cognitive skills and strategies to promote a sense of personal identity and wellbeing and to build and manage respectful relationships
  • acquire, apply and evaluate movement skills, concepts and strategies to respond confidently, competently and creatively in a variety of physical activity contexts and settings
  • engage in and enjoy regular movement-based learning experiences and understand and appreciate their significance to personal, social, cultural, environmental and health practices and outcomes
  • analyse how varied and changing personal and contextual factors shape understanding of, and opportunities for, health and physical activity locally, regionally and globally.

Prep to Year 6 - Each term the children participate in varying sporting activities whether it is for sports carnivals, team events, athletics and/or swimming.  The PE teacher is Mr Brendan Luck.

Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country Carnivals

  • The school swimming carnival is early in Term 1 at the Glennie Pool
  • Cross Country happens at the end of Term 1 at St Saviour’s Primary School
  • The Athletics Carnival is generally at the end of Term 2

Swimming

Swimming lessons are part of the school curriculum and teach our children vital swimming and water safety skills for life. All students participate in these lessons which are normally held at the Glennie pool during a one week block in Term 1.

Our Swimming Carnival will be held at the beginning of Term 1 of each year at the Glennie Aquatic Centre.

Interschool Sport

Interschool sport provides students with the opportunity to participate in a structured sport competition which is played between schools. Through this program students in Years 5 and 6 are able to explore a variety of team sports (netball, soccer, rugby league and hockey) on a Friday afternoon in Term 3.

Sports Representatives

Representative School Sport allows students to foster connections with their own school, other schools and the broader community. Students between the ages of 10 to 12 have the opportunity to represent St Saviour’s Primary School, the Darling Downs and Queensland in various sporting disciplines.

Extra Curricular Activities

The school provides opportunities for the students to participate in several extra-curricular sport activities such as AFL, NRL, Cricket, Basket Ball and Swimming.  These activities will vary each year.

Sports Houses

The students will be allocated a house team Gold (Coolock), Red (Goretti), Green (McAuley) and Blue (Xavier). Students will be encouraged to develop loyalty to their team. Two Year Six students will be appointed as Captains of these houses each year.

  • McAuley (Green) - Catherine McAuley is the foundress of our Mercy Sisters
  • Xavier (Blue) - Named after St Francis Xavier
  • Coolock (Yellow) - The name of a house where Catherine lived
  • Goretti (Red) - Named after Saint Maria Goretti
