Student Support

The classroom teacher is responsible for the education of all students in his/her class utilising the support of appropriate personnel. Support applies to both students who need extension and intervention. Therefore it may be accessed by students who are high achievers as well as those who are experiencing difficulty.

The school has a Learning Support Teacher (LST) and EALD (English as an additional language or dialect) teacher on staff. The LST Team provides collaboration, expertise, resources, testing support, EALD (English as an additional language or dialect) support, and acts as Case Manager for students with exceptional needs. Regular meetings are held with the Leadership Team to discuss individual student needs across the school. The Learning Support Program is a valued and effective component of the school curriculum. The program creates a flexible and diverse learning environment.

Special Needs Committee

A Student Support Committee meets regularly throughout the year to discuss: academic progress; access to and diagnosis from specialists and what these mean relating to a classroom; behavioural issues; school counselling and accessing specialist staff from the Toowoomba Catholic Schools Office and classroom adjustments and strategies.

The committee includes a member of the School Leadership Team, School Counsellor (if appropriate), Class Teacher, Learning Support Teacher and other specialist support staff relevant to the learning needs of the individual student.

School Counsellor

Our School Guidance Counsellor works at our school five days in a fortnight. The School Counsellor works in a variety of ways to support the social and emotional wellbeing of the children at our school. Should you wish to speak to the School Counsellor, please make contact with your child’s class teacher.
